Books On Film | The Longest Ride & True Story

           

The Longest Ride, latest in a long line of adaptions of Nicholas Spark's work, will premiere this weekend. This book tells two different love stories taking place at two different times.

After being trapped in an isolated car crash, the life of an elderly widower becomes entwined with that of a young college student and the cowboy she loves.

True Story, based on the memoir True Story: Murder, Memoir, Mea Culpa will also premiere this weekend in a limited release. The film will star James Franco as Christian Longo and Jonah Hills as Michael Finkel.

A young, highly intelligent man named Christian Longo, on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list for killing his entire family, has recently been captured in Mexico, where he'd taken on a new identity - Michael Finkel of the New York Times." "The next day, on page A-3 of the Times, comes another bit of troubling news: a note, written by the paper's editors, explaining that Finkel has falsified parts of an investigative article and has been fired. This unlikely confluence sets the stage for a bizarre and intense relationship.

Book Bucket List | The Notebook

So it's Valentine's Day! I love this holiday, it's basically just an excuse for romance, gifts, and unnecessary candlelight. So for this awesome, awesome day I will give you some romantic book suggestions.

The Notebook.  This is a given, and I apologize for the obvious first pick, but this is the best Nicholas Sparks book I've read.  In typical Sparks fashion, it follows the story of the relationship between teens Noah and Allie.  After a summer together, they are torn apart by parents and social expectations, but are eventually brought back together in a spectacular fashion.  We also have the movie, which stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. (I love this movie).  So if you're looking for a book and film that won't leave you with a dry eye, pick up a copy of this book!

Pride and Prejudice. I have posted before about my love of Jane Austen, and this is one of my favorite books of all time. It's funny, romantic, and has some great social commentary. If you haven't read this, Valentine's day is a great excuse.

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. This book was just recommended to me, and I am so excited to read it.  Partially set during World War II, Henry Lee loses contact with the girl he loves when she and her family are sent off to a Japanese internment camp.  I haven't read it, but the reviews for this book are all great.  I'm going to go grab it right now.

Books On Film | Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is coming and there will be two movies released based on books.

The first, is Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. It's the story of a young woman with a mysterious, painful past who moves into a new town. It stars Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel. 

Nicholas Sparks is the king of tragic romance. He's written 18 books since 1995, most of which have been adapted into films. The most popular adaptation is the one based off of his first novel The Notebook, which starred Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. However, there are lots more so if you like your romance with a little heartache then check out Nicolas Sparks' books.

The second adaptation coming out on Valentine's Day was mentioned in post of 2013 Adaptations. Beautiful Creatures, the first book of a series, is a teen paranormal novel. In it a girl who can cast magic must decide on her 16th birthday if it she will use it for good or evil. Her life is additionally complicated when she meets a boy who is more connected than she realizes to her strange life.

The movie stars Emmy Rossum, Viola Davis, Jeremy Irons, and Emma Thompson.
