Greetings and Salutations!

Bracing yourself for the imminent Disney-ification of the Star Wars films in 2015? Professor O had a feeling, once the rights were sold, that the Disney machine would churn out a continuation of the films, expand the galaxy, or even make television shows of the beloved franchise. It's what Disney does. Whether this is good or bad remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, there will be much more Star Wars to look forward to!

If you are itching for some good Star Wars reads, the SSJCPL has you covered (of course). The library carries many of the best old school flavored Star Wars comics, from Dark Horse and Marvel. There are the adventures from the best of the Rebel pilots: Rogue Squadron, to the further adventures of Luke Skywalker, to the expanded universe, all right here, all available to you, dear comic book reader at the SSJCPL!

How about manga interpretations?

Book Bucket List | Star Wars: The Heir to the Empire Triology

So last month it was announced by the folks at Disney/Lucasfilm that director J.J. Abrams will be directing the newest Star Wars trilogy.  Abrams has also recently rebooted the original Star Trek franchise, which has caused a new war between the Trekkies and Star Wars fans, but that's another story.  You can read more about the decision to have Abrams direct here.

The new movies are supposed to take place after The Return of the Jedi, the final installment of the first three Star Wars films. Though no official plot details have been released, the Thawn Trilogy or Heir to the Empire Trilogy by Timothy Zahn begins only five years after Return of the Jedi ends.  These were the first science fiction books I ever got my hands on, and as Star Wars was constantly playing in our house and as kids we were constantly reenacting them (I was always Princess Leia), I was hooked.  The books include the original characters from the first series, including Han, Leia, Luke, and even Chewie, as well as the next generation of Skywalkers/Solos.

These books are considered classics in Star Wars land, they may have some content that the new movies incorporate.  So if you are curious about what the new series may be about, check out these titles!

I love Dr. Seuss' book, I Can Read With my Eyes Shut because it has this great quote in it: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." How cool is this? And it's true! Reading takes you places.... it really does.

Maybe even to a galaxy far, far away. Speaking of which, October 6th is Star Wars Day and lots of the libraries will be having special programs celebrating all things Star Wars...from Yoda to Obi-Wan Kenobi....from Princess Leia to C-3PO. There will be lots of fun Star Wars activities, and after the progams, you can browse and check out lots of great Star Wars books. One of my favorites is Star Wars: the Ultimate Visual Guide by Ryder Windham. This book will tell you all you could ever need to know about Star Wars.
